TOGETHER WITH SOLOMON MARCUS, TOWARDS IDENTITY

Mina RUSU    << Back to contents

Because we are afraid of the time that passes by, our being is constantly looking for support in the spiritual dimension without time, without space and beyond the Crossing.
Being often asked about his fears, Solomon Marcus always answers the same: the fear of getting lost and the fear of losing my keys. I have always thought about this confession and I have understood the tenacity which defeated his fears and raised him above the flow of time and now, at the age of 90, he looks with serenity at the whirlpools of time. Solomon Marcus has overcome his fear of getting lost in the unknown, of not finding his path. His own cultural identity, which I assimilate with the metaphor of the keys, guards his path.

THE FUNDAMENTAL CONDITIONS OF EXPERIENCE AND THEIR ROLE FOR THE CONSTITUTION OF SUBJECTIVITY

Irina ROTARU    << Back to contents

Our aim in this paper is to show that the personal level of subjectivity, understood as narrative, or dialogical self, is rooted iont a deeper level of subjectivity, namely embodiment. In order to do this, we appeal to the concepts of body schema and body image, as they are explained in the work of Shaun Gallagher. The structure of subjectivity according to body schema and body image is deepened by means of the Gibsonian concept of ecological self.
Key words: body image, body schema, core self, ecological self, narrative self

The aim of the present paper is to show that the personal level of subjectivity, understood as narrative, or dialogical self, is rooted into a deeper level of subjectivity, namely embodiment. This fundamental level of subjectivity also has a sense of self associated with it. For this, we will start from Shaun Gallaghers book, How the Body Shapes the Mind1, and from James Gibsons The Ecological Approach to Visual Perception.2 Gallagher is a contemporary philosopher whose work links cognition sciences and phenomenology regarding aspects of embodiment, subjectivity, and consciousness, while Gibson is considered to be the most important psychologist of the 20th century

POLITICAL COMMUNICATION AND THE ROLE OF PRESCRIBERS IN SHAPING ELECTORAL BEHAVIOR: A STARTING POINT

Marius Sorin DANGĂ    << Back to contents

Electoral marketing is the most important component of political marketing. In the literature, no clear-cut distinction is always made between electoral and political marketing. However, there are some specific items of electoral marketing that we intend to deal with in the present study, on taking into account the electoral market and its specific features that distinguish it from the goods and services market. A considerable influence on the electoral market is exercised by prescribers, as part of the micromedium of political organizations, namely the persons holding important positions, who can orientate the behavior of others. They can do this whether they adopt or not the recommended behavior themselves. In classical marketing, term prescription is to be met especially with reference to the medical field. Doctors plays the role of prescribers, prescribing a particular medication to patients. Therefore, physicians play an important role for drug manufacturers and distributors. Similarly, in the political world, prescribers play a very important role for both people and political parties. It is in our interest to see whether their role can be determined with the precision expected from an exact science and which are the specific marketing ways that make this prescription work in politics.
Keywords: electoral marketing, electorate, political communication, political organizations, prescribers, voting behaviour.

NEOLOGISMS IN ROMANIAN MASS MEDIA ANALYSIS OF THE SYNTAGMS USED IN NEWS AND ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMS

Maria FLOREA    << Back to contents

Breaking news, news alert, meeting, leadership or lobby are only a few of the numerous English syntagms taken over by journalists and imposed in the daily language of the Romanians by means of media. At first sight, within the context of globalization, such a phenomenon might appear as natural, on condition of the existence of some suitable factors for controlling and appreciating the real necessity of having some terms accepted in the Romanian language.
There exist domains of activity in which introduction of Anglo-Saxon terms is compulsory, once they do not have an equally corresponding word in Romanian, such as: broker, dealer, duty-free.
On the other side, however, there are a lot of unacceptably numerous - Anglicism terms with no justification, as they do not bring additional information, comparatively with their equivalent Romanian word; these are the so-called luxury syntagms taken over and promoted by snobbery, which explains their extended utilization for the public, e.g.: advertising, training, performance, agreement, fashion, etc.
A poor command over the Romanian language and an incorrect translation of these abusively employed terms cause numerous pleonasms, which the journalists deliever us with superiority and enthusiasm. The greatest danger in the absence of some decision factors capable of correcting and sanctioning such mistakes - is that such pleonastic or incorrectly used syntagms may be taken over as such by uneducated audience, especially teenagers and, by their extended utilization, mainly by means of socialization networks, imposed as apparently correct.
Keywords: breaking news, mass media, Anglo-Saxon terms, pleonasm.

MASS MEDIA INTERSECTION WITH THE POLITICAL FRAMEWORK

Adrian ROSENTZVEIG (Adi Cristi)    << Back to contents

In this article we intend to present the evolution of Romanian society from the December 1989 Revolution until the present day. The focus is on how mass - media in general intersected with the political power. Freedom was the biggest gain as a squence of the bloody separation from the communist dictatorship. The study also follows the evolution and the degree of independence, along with the three fundamental powers: legislative, executive and judiciary and that of the fourth unofficia one, namely press. The need for information determines the political frame to intersect with mass - media. We find out that mass - media and politics are complementary and, in addition, have many points of intersection, mutual conditionings, giving rise sometimes to a number of ambiguities, which cause confusion and distrust among citizens. The idea that prevails is that the press today becomes increasingly dependent on advertising contracts.
At the end of the article, the author presents a personal opinion on how the political class should have looked like meant to lead a country with a young democracy. According to this view,it would have been necessary to have promoted as leaders those who had no connection with the nomenclature of the former communist regime.
Key words: mass media, politics, revolution, freedom, information.

INTRALINGUAL TRANSLATION A ROMANIAN PERSPECTIVE

Ana-Magdalena PETRARU    << Back to contents

The aim of this paper is to give a diachronic account of intralingual translation in Romania, i.e. the way in which writers, translators, critics and other manipulators of the (literary) text have viewed it since the beginnings of translation on our soil to present day. Thus, we will discuss the phenomenon of intralingual translation in a minor culture, as tackled in the Romanian discourse, on translation by the manipulators of a target text mentioned above; we will review appraisals, criticism, opinions, indications, guidelines for intralingual translation in two major historical periods, namely the communist and post-communist years, so as to grasp terms and concepts around intralingual translation in the Romanian cultural setting. As a case in point, we will discuss Robinson Crusoe and the three versions signed by Petru Cormarnescu (the 1943, 1961 and 1964 ones, respectively), which could be viewed as an instance of intralingual translation in Romania.
Keywords: concepts around intralingual translation, retranslation of English classics, Romanian intralingual translation, translation guidelines.

ECCENTRICITY BETWEEN SCIENTIFIC DISCOURSE AND LITERARY DISCOURSE

Elena Mihaela ANDREI    << Back to contents

Study of the 19th century literature and, particularly, of eccentricity, cannot neglect the medical discourse. This century is marked by the development of science, in particular, of psychiatry. Furthermore, it is also influenced by the Romantic Movement, where the individual cultivates and demonstrates his taste for freedom, originality, his knowledge on the mysteries of his psychic self and on the universe which surrounds him. The romantic writer discovers and lives the delights of imagination (viewed as the native place of the taste of originality, conceived as a sign of individual genius).
Shortly, this paper tries to demonstrate that eccentricity, generally understood both in the literal (a term taken over from astronomy, geometry and psychiatry) and symbolic meaning (eccentricity as an aesthetic category), is a key concept that energizes and defines the act of Gerard de Nervals writing, but also of psychiatrist writers.
Keywords: eccentricity, medical discourse, literary discourse, psychiatry, Romantic Movement, psychic self.

THE DIALOGUE OF THE EPISTOLARY WITH LITERATURE (THE MATEIU CARAGIALE N. A. BOICESCU CASE)

Diana VRABIE    << Back to contents

The suite of letters that involves Mateiu Caragiale is composed exclusively of messages sent by him and preserved by his correspondents, while nothing of what had been addressed to him is to be found in well-known collections. The letters of Mateiu Caragiale are nearly the only handwritten writings preserved. One cannot pretend a nuanced understanding of a correspondence if ignoring the subterranean communication between author and his creation, between him and the social context in which he used to live, between the author and his inner universe or even his existential condition. At the same time, these relations should be understood in their complete subtleness, making reference to writers biography, as well as to the realization of his work.
Keywords: correspondence, epistolary convention, epistolary literature, bovarism, non-literary boundary.

THEME AND THEMATIC ANALYSIS

Marius Narcis MANOLIU    << Back to contents

The concept of theme has been and still is the ground on which different opinions and approaches meet. This not surprinsing if we consider the complexity of the concept and the difficulty to approach it. That is the reason why each writer who delt with it started either from well-known definitions trying to enlarge them by adding new elements or devised new definitions which would almost deny the existing ones. Distinctions are importatnt to be observed between theme and motif, theme and subject, as more than once, in dealing with these concepts, misuses may occur.
Key words: theme, thematic material, psychoanalysis, work of art, motif, recurrence.

THE POSTMODERN PARADIGM: GENITORS OF THE POSTMODERN DIALOGUE

Paul GORBAN    << Back to contents

Along their historical evolution, human beings modify their communication system, as well as the signs they use, which is a consequence of the fact that man, together with and in relation with his fellows, creates and cultivates signs. The assertion to be made is that the act of cultivation is an act of giving significance, namely semiosis. Accordingly, we might agree that icons, codes, signals, may suffer mutations. However, in spite of such possible mutations, the new signs include, in their very existence, the first notations, in the same manner in which Eliade, talking about the atheist who had been once a Christian, will never lose the first love feelings he experienced. Nevertheless, philosophers assert that the contemporary world is facing a crisis of identity, crossing in the stage of metaphysical finality, of going beyond the metaphysical aspects, of recodification, of opening-closing, as a form of weak thinking1, etc. However, postmodernism, as many other cultural periods, had its own incipit. From this perspective, it is essential to understand the postmodern cultural semiosis, alongwith this mixture of sign recodification or reconstruction, to attempt at building up an anthropology of postmodern culture, and even at identifying its roots.
Keywords: modernism, avangardism, postmodernism, transmodernism, semiotics, semiosis, metaphysics, cultural anthropology, nihilism, poetic language.

HEGEMONY OF IRAN IN THE CASPIAN-CENTRAL ASIA REGION FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF GEOPOLITICAL REALITIES

Hossein RABIEE, Mosayeb GHAREHBEYGI, Seyyedeh SHAHRBANOU MOUSAVI    << Back to contents

At geostrategic level, the Caspian region is an area with significant events on the axes of Central Asia, Caucasus and India, which explains why the Soviet Union intensified its splayed dominance in the Caspian region and blocked any intervention of other countries during the Cold War. The aim of this paper is to investigate the geopolitical dimensions of Iran in the Caspian-Central Asia and how Irans foreign relations can be influenced by its geopolitical position. The Caspian-Central Asia region is the place of living of over 50 ethnic and linguistic groups, representing the three great religions of Judaism, Islamism and Christianity. The Caspian-Central Asia or South Caspian-Central Asia, situated at the crossroads of Eurasias major energy and transport corridors, continues to play a vital role in worlds security affairs. The methodology of this research is descriptive-analytical, and it attempts to give a geopolitical answer to the question: how can Iran gain hegemony in the Caspian-Central Asia region? In accordance with the results of this paper, it seems that the geopolitical reality provides the most advantageous strategy to Iran.
Key words: geopolitics, Caspian-Central Asia region, hegemony, Iran.
