A SPACE OF PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: THE URBAN SQUARE

Răzvan THEODORESCU, Acad.    << Back to contents

Centripetal and centrifugal at the same time, starting point and crossroads which combines, even from ancient times, functional values with aesthetic values or, in the words of the theorist and Rennaisance artist Leon Battista Aleberti, “comoditas” and “voluptas”, the city square could ecome both an object of architectural reflection (Pierre Lavedan) and of an anthropologicalsociological one (Georges Balandier).

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INTEGRATED MARKETING COMMUNICATION AND BRAND EQUITY

Adrian BRUNELLO    << Back to contents

Abstract: This article focuses on the importance of marketing communication both for customers and for companies. In today’s globalized society the use of an integrated marketing communication (IMC) strategy plays a major role in persuading customers to buy the products or services of a particular firm. But IMC has a much more significant value: it contributes to the development of a company’s brand equity. The following article presents the concept of brand equity, both from a financial and market perspective, and it deals with the relationship between IMC and brand equity, also analyzing its implications.
Keywords: communication, integrated marketing communication, brand equity, customer-based brand equity.

TIME MANAGEMENT – A PARADIGM OF CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY

Irina Eleonora MELINTE    << Back to contents

Abstract: Time management has increasingly become an issue of crucial relevance.
Time needs to be viewed as a complex mathematical value and not as a simple linear graphic, hence the current debate of whether it is better to follow classical methods to speed up the pace as the fast hare or the alternative view of actually slowing down the rhythm like the wise tortoise. The current paper aims at developing, besides the classical and the alternative views regarding time management, a third category of methods that focus on the individual, personal perception of time.
Keywords: time management, industrial revolution, organizer, personal view of time.

THE TELEVISON OF NICHE

Margareta ANDREESCU    << Back to contents

Abstract: Approaching the television of niche from a comparative point of view represents a new perspective, as, on a national level, this has not been done yet. There have not been identified sources which have approached the problems of these channels with a complex monitor grid. Although there are numerous works dealing with aspects proper to the domain of television, information regarding the television of niche is by far a few. In the present paper we will try to point out what are the peculiarities of these channels. In order to make an analysis of the regional televisions, it is important to identify and present the concepts and notions which define the specificity of this type of television. It is a fact that, at present, television in Europe is affected by the economy recession. The paper does not try to offer solutions or models adjusted to the present context, it endeavours to present a first analysis regarding the place of these channels on the audio visual market.
Keywords: general interest, specialised or nice, focussed, public, niche, news, films, sport, music.

THE ANTHROPOLOGICAL ROOTS OF THE ECONOMIC CRISIS

Pedro BARRAJÓN    << Back to contents

Abstract: The following paper focuses on new ways of analyzing the economic crisis which unfortunately led to social, economic and human discomfort. The starting point of the discussion is presented in “Caritas in Veritate” which presents the line drawn between developed and underdeveloped countries. People are faced with the choice of deciding their own destiny. The anthropological theme therefore plays a significant role in understanding the situation because it represents the only long-lasting solution for beating the crisis. The paper emphasizes the importance of a new humanistic synthesis (made out of different forms of humanism such as liberal, atheistic or Christian) in understanding, dealing with and overcoming the recession. The article concludes by stressing the importance of a fundamental humane and Christian value and that is hope. The current crisis represents a challenge to man and society, but people have to perceive it as a development opportunity. Our society must once again be able to reach the knowledge and techniques of a harmonious synthesis in the middle of which we find the individual who is destined to live in community with himself, with others and with nature.
Keywords: economic crisis, anthropology, humanism, Christianity, hope.

LEADERSHIP AND ETHICS IN INTERCULTURAL ORGANISATIONS. THE RACE TO THE HUMAN GENOME

Antonio MARTURANO    << Back to contents

Abstract: Leadership and ethics have a quite interconnected life. Yet the crossing of those domains is often misunderstood. In the following I will try to describe how ethics is impacting on leadership in two different kinds of organizations working on the same business while having a different kind of organizational culture. I will start describing different levels of ethics, such a distinction is important to understand the ethical level we will be discussing in the following paragraph. Then, I will describe the way in which leadership is performed in these organisations – using as case studies the race to the human genome by the Celera Genomics and the Public Consortium – and embodied by their leaders. Finally, I will conclude that flatter and collaborative organisations are more likely to survive in a business competition on the basis of their moral sensibility.

ITALIAN POLITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS. OPINION AND FEELING

Daniela GIFU    << Back to contents

Abstract: From the public opinion’s perspective, one can assess the success of an article by the degree to which a journalist is able to change political attitudes, opinions, feelings and beliefs. We present a computational system – GETARUNS – which integrates a wide range of natural language processing tools intended to identify some characteristics of journalistic discourse (here, political issues from the written press). The method can be applied to different languages (Italian, English etc.) to the end of deeply understanding and comparing texts in terms of linguistics (lexical-semantic richness and so on). The system is able to produce tables, graphs, pragmatic marks by means of which one can compare two or more discourses, distinct fields, or to analyse the run of the same subject in different contexts. Our approach is based on the assumption that linguistics can configure a complete analysis of written press discourse. The system can be useful for specialists in various fields, including media, communication, economics and politics, psychology, education etc.
Keywords: Italian written press, lexical-semantic analysis, syntax, opinion and feeling, rhetoric, journalist, natural language processing.

MATEI VIŞNIEC AND “THE QUICKSANDS” OF JOURNALISM

Elena PRUS    << Back to contents

Abstract: The study discusses the interaction between the creative osmoses of two aspects of creation: Matei Vişniec-the journalist and Vişniec-the writer, starting from the analysis of the novel Preventive disorder (2011) and of the reportages included in Chronicles of the stirring ideas (2010).
The complex set of the established semiotic codes, conventions and values the journalist analyses and makes use of are superposed upon the narrative strategies of the writer, while, in his turn, the writer influences the journalist with his writings. Changing of the optical lenses of the writer with those of the journalist and, respectively, those of the journalist with the instruments of the writer occurs along the whole above-mentioned manifest-novel – Preventive disorder.
Even if radio broadcastings provide the immediate and the instaneous, they tend to escape the “tyrany of the present state “ (Régis Debray) towards the profoundness and concentration of the artistic imaginary.
Keywords: representation, Matei Vişniec, image-information, show-information, performance.

THE PROBLEMATOLOGIC ANALYSIS OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL DIALOGUE: FROM THE CRITICAL FUNCTION TO THE MINIMAL EPISTEMOLOGY

Laura CIUBOTARAŞU – PRICOP    << Back to contents

Abstract: In its essence, the problematologic model assumes the possibility that a question can receive at the same time without contradiction, several answers. Multiple answers may retain the equivalence relation only to the extent not to lose touch with the question that generated the problematologic difference. In this context, the dialogue as a way of using the language performs, according to the problematologic theory, two functions: a critical and an epistemological one. These two functions, as I will try to argue, may indicate the dynamic evolution of the dialogue.
Keywords: problematology, historicity, dialogue, minimal epistemology.

SELF-TRANSLATION AS MEDIATION BETWEEN CULTURES

Ghenadie RÂBACOV    << Back to contents

Abstract: This paper focuses on the image of cross-cultural translator par excellence, namely the self-translator. When facing a difficult task of translating his/her own literary work, the self-translator, who is also a bilingual and a bicultural author, is often free to do some changes in the process of his work’s translation. Even if he/she is the author of the original text many theorists consider such a phenomenon to be a betrayal of the original work. However, we dare to say that in this case it is a conscious manipulation of the original, a manipulation that allows understanding and reception of the text by two different people. Assuming the task of linguistic and cultural transcoding of his/her own work, the author-translator reflects his personal experiences in the both versions which are slightly tinted according to the language and the culture in which they are written. The idea is that when rendering his/her experiences into the both languages the self-translator becomes a cross-cultural mediator and establishes certain relationships between these cultures in the process of translation.
Keywords: Self-translation, original work, bilingualism, biculturalism.

AMERICAN LANGUAGE, POLITICS AND IDENTITY

Alexandru BOBOC    << Back to contents

Abstract: At the beginning of the seventh decade of the twentieth century, a time of change in the patterns of immigration when the ethnic pride flourished remarkably, the Americans began to consider the merits of the idea of proclaiming the English language as the official language of the United States.
Examining the arguments underlying the movement for proclaiming the English language as the official language, we can conclude that a very large and surprisingly heterogeneous part of the U.S. population believe that speaking English is an important element of the American identity.
In recent years, America’s ability to reconcile political unity in cultural diversity has been questioned again.
The controversy between the supporters of “language rights” and the promoters of a law meant to establish the exclusivity of the English language is based on a deeper controversy regarding the specificity of the American identity and the means for its protection. Could we assume that speaking English is a condition of full membership to the American society? Should we assume that state’s support of bilingualism creates an erosion of the foundations of national unity or that such a policy promotes ethnic harmony?
Keywords: language rights, cultural inheritance, emigration, the United States of America.

THE POLITICS OF PRACTICAL-ORIENTED EDUCATION: IMPLEMENTING INAUTHENTIC EDUCATION

Anca Raluca PURCARU    << Back to contents

Abstract: This article focuses on the purpose of education and its role in the social-economical postmodern context. A historical and philosophical approach on education discovers that its authentic status, the essence of the human being, was forgotten while, in a modern and more pragmatic approach, it is considered to be a possession essential to intellectual work. This is reflected in the education policies that try to optimize the economical results of intellectual work and contribute to economical prosperity. But approaching education as a tool means approaching the human being as an object and it is important to return to another kind of education, placing the accent on another dimension of the human being besides that of being an economical actor. Education is not something the human being does, it is something through which the human being becomes a human being.
Keywords: Paidea, homo laborans, theoria, praxis, human being.

FILM AS A MEANS OF POPULARIZATION OF CLASSICAL AUTHORS

Madalina-Elena CIOLACU    << Back to contents

Abstract: Literature and film have always had a close relation ever since the invention of cinema. Film producers consider literature as a ready-made stock of scripts that they can access any time. Shakespeare’s plays are probably some of the most adapted works in cinema history, having been turned either into highly modern films or into films that closely observed the original text. Film adaptations managed to do something that theatre seemed unable to do lately, that is to popularize classical authors and to bring them into the spotlight once again.
Keywords: film, Shakespeare, adaptation, theatre
